100 Mile House at a Glance
Travel north a few hundred kilometres of Kamloops
following the central BC plateau to find the town of 100 Mile House, embedded
in a landscape of lakes, rivers and ranches. For nearly a hundred years, this
region has been a cattle powerhouse and today that tradition is captured and re-lived
at the region's many guest
ranches. Visitors to the area can also enjoy the great outdoors on a pack
trip through the serene wilderness. The lakes surrounding 100 Mile House are a
magnetic draw for fishers searching for rainbow trout or the famous kokanee, while
kayakers and canoers also frequently paddle these clear waters. In winter, 100
Mile House becomes a cross-country skiing hotbed, since the town boasts a 150-km
(93-mi) groomed trail system. As for the town's name, it stems from the old markers
along the historic Gold Rush Trail starting with Lillooet
to the south at mile 0.
